Here are the latest news updates and possible return dates for Knicks players…
Feb. 21, 11:38 p.m.
Isaiah Hartenstein (Achilles) and Bojan Bogdanovic (calf) are probable for Thursday’s game at the Philadelphia 76ers, according to the Knicks’ injury report.
Hartenstein last played for New York Feb. 8 in the 122-109 loss to the Dallas Mavericks. Through 50 games, he averages 7.1 points and 8.7 rebounds in 25.6 minutes.
Bogdanovic, meanwhile, did not dress in the Knicks most recent game — last Wednesday’s 108-100 loss at the Orlando Magic. In two games with New York this season, Bogdanovic has 26 points on 10-of-23 shooting.
Feb. 20, 6:40 p.m.
Although not yet cleared to practice, Julius Randle continues to make strides in his rehab from a dislocated shoulder with head coach Tom Thibodeau saying at Tuesday’s practice, “I haven’t heard anything other than he’s making good, steady progress,” per SNY’s Ian Begley.
According to Begley, Thibs sounded like he’s still “optimistic” that Randle, who is working out twice a day, can make a return to the team this season.
Feb. 14, 5:30 p.m.
The Knicks will officially be even more shorthanded when they close out the first half of the season with a Wednesday night matchup against the Orlando Magic.
Donte DiVincenzo, Isaiah Hartenstein, and Bojan Bogdanovic have all been ruled out for New York’s final game before the All-Star break.
DiVincenzo is dealing with a sore right hamstring that he tweaked after playing 41 minutes in Monday’s disappointing loss to the Houston Rockets.
Hartenstein has missed the past three games due to a lingering Achilles issue and Bogdanovic is dealing with a sore left calf, which also flared up on him after Monday’s game.
Tom Thibodeau told reporters pregame that he expects all three to be back healthy when they open the second half next Thursday against the 76ers.
Feb. 13, 6:15 p.m.
Already down a handful of their key players, the Knicks may be even more shorthanded for Tuesday’s road matchup with the Orlando Magic (29-24).
Red-hot shooting guard Donte DiVincenzo and starting center Isaiah Hartenstein are both being listed as questionable heading into the contest.
DiVincenzo is nursing a sore right hamstring which he tweaked after playing the first 41 minutes in Monday’s disappointing loss to the Houston Rockets.
Hartenstein has been sidelined each of the last two contests to lingering injury which the team is now calling left Achilles tendinopathy.
We’ll know more tomorrow about their status, but perhaps we’ll see the Knicks err on the side of caution in their last game before the All-Star break.
Feb. 13, 9:12 a.m.
Already down a number of key players, the Knicks lost another one during Monday’s game against the Rockets.
Donte DiVincenzo injured his right hamstring in the final minutes of the game, exited, and did not return.
Head coach Tom Thibodeau did not have an update on DiVincenzo after the game.
In addition to DiVincenzo, OG Anunoby, Julius Randle, Isaiah Hartenstein, and Mitchell Robinson are all dealing with injuries of varying severity.
Anunoby had minor elbow surgery and could return in a few weeks, Randle is attempting to work his way back from a dislocated shoulder, Hartenstein is dealing with an Achilles issue, and Robinson is progressing toward a return from a serious ankle injury.
Feb. 12, 6:35 p.m.
Isaiah Hartenstein (sore Achilles) is out for the Knicks’ 8 p.m. tip-off with the Houston Rockets, Tom Thibodeau told reporters before the game.
Jericho Sims (illness) is available, Thibodeau added.
Sims, who last played on Feb. 3 in New York’s 113-105 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, has started seven of his 26 games this season. He is averaging 1.7 points and 2.2 rebounds.
Feb. 11, 6:00 p.m.
The Knicks may have some reinforcements on the way for Monday night’s game against the Rockets, as starting center Isaiah Hartenstein has been upgraded to questionable and backup Jericho Sims is listed as probable.
Hartenstein missed Saturday night’s matchup due to a lingering Achilles injury, which sidelined him for a pair of games earlier this season, and Sims has been out with an illness.
With the two big men sidelined in Saturday’s loss to the Indiana Pacers, veteran Taj Gibson received his first start since returning to the team.
Feb. 10, 7:22 p.m.
Jalen Brunson is in the starting five for the Knicks on Saturday as is center Taj Gibson for the first time this season as New York is without both Isaiah Hartenstein and Jericho Sims.
Donte DiVincenzo, Josh Hart and Precious Achiuwa round out the rest of the starting lineup against the Indiana Pacers.
Feb. 10, 5:50 p.m.
Jalen Brunson will be a game-time decision for the Knicks’ Saturday night matchup with the Indiana Pacers, head coach Tom Thibodeau said before the game.
Despite already being ruled out for Saturday, Thibs did mention that Isaiah Hartenstein is day-to-day with an Achilles injury.
However, his backup, Jericho Sims, is being evaluated for his availability tonight. Earlier on Saturday, the Knicks signed Taj Gibson to another 10-day contract and the veteran could potentially make his first start of the season.
But unlike Thursday against the Dallas Mavericks, New York will have recently acquired Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks in the building and ready to play.
Feb. 9, 5:58 p.m.
Isaiah Hartenstein will not be playing in Saturday’s game against the Indiana Pacers as the Knicks have listed him as out with an Achilles injury.
Yet, while they lose Hartenstein, there is still a possibility that Jalen Brunson could return.
The All-Star point guard was listed as questionable for Saturday with an ankle injury. Brunson was also questionable for Thursday’s game against the Mavericks but was ultimately ruled out.
The injuries have been piling on for the Knicks, who are already without OG Anunoby and Julius Randle for an extended period of time. Hartenstein was the latest to join that group after he left Thursday’s game early with a sore Achilles. The extent of his injury is still unclear.
Feb. 8, 9:23 p.m.
The Knicks just can’t seem to catch a break as Isaiah Hartenstein is the latest player to go down due to injury, this one a sore left Achilles tendon.
In the second quarter of Thursday’s game against the Dallas Mavericks, Hartenstein landed awkwardly on his left leg after a shot attempt and had a bit of a limp as he tried walking if off.
Hartenstein was not on the court to begin the second half, nor was he on the bench. In fact, the center has been dealing with this sore Achilles for some time and it even kept him out of a few games earlier this season.
Before the injury, Hartenstein had 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting with four rebounds, two assists and two steals in 15 first half minutes.
Without their big man, the Knicks are down to seven active players due to multiple other injuries on their roster, as well as a busy trade deadline day that resulted in a thin bench for Thursday’s action.
Feb. 8, 5:55 p.m.
Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau announced that All-Star point guard Jalen Brunson will miss Thursday’s game against the Dallas Mavericks.
Brunson left Tuesday’s win over the Grizzlies after twisting his ankle in the fourth quarter. While not unexpected, Thibodeau called Brunson “day-to-day.” Thibodeau also confirmed that Jericho Sims will be out for this game. With the various injuries and the players dealt at the trade deadline, the Knicks will have eight available players.
SNY’s Ian Begley reported that Brunson left the locker room on Tuesday without a limp, so it’s a promising sign that the guard won’t miss an extended period of time.
Feb. 8, 11:58 a.m.
The Knicks made a deal for forward Bogdan Bogdanovic before Thursday’s trade deadline and the health of OG Anunoby‘s elbow was a part of the decision-making process.
According to SNY’s Ian Begley, the Knicks’ “uncertainty/concern” factored into the team’s approach at the deadline. Begley adds that Anunoby was making progress as of late last week but has not been available since his late scratch Jan. 29 against the Hornets.
The Knicks changed Anunoby’s injury description from “elbow inflammation” to “bone spur irritation” on Wednesday.
Feb. 7, 5:49 p.m.
The Knicks are listing Jalen Brunson as questionable with an ankle sprain for their Thursday night bout with the Dallas Mavericks and have also listed OG Anunoby as out with bone spur irritation in his right elbow, per SNY’s Ian Begley.
It appears Brunson avoided serious injury when he rolled his ankle in the fourth quarter on Tuesday night against the Memphis Grizzlies, but a decision on whether he’ll be able to suit up will likely come on Thursday.
As for Anunoby, this is the first time the team has expounded on his injury, which was classified before as elbow inflammation. Head coach Tom Thibodeau has already said that the Knicks will not rush Anunoby back to the court and will wait until he’s fully healthy.
Thibs did, however, mention on Tuesday that the small forward was “improving” late last week. Regardless, Thursday will mark Anunoby’s sixth straight absence from the court.
Feb. 6, 9:55 p.m.
Jalen Brunson went down after rolling his ankle in the fourth quarter of Tuesday’s win over the Memphis Grizzlies, but he seems to have avoided the worst.
“I’m hearing so far that the belief is Jalen Brunson has avoided a severe ankle injury,” SNY’s Ian Begley reported after the game. “That’s the initial read on it tonight.”
Begley added that Brunson left the locker room with no limp. He did not have crutches, and there was nothing on his ankle.
After the injury, Brunson walked to the bench with a slight limp, then went to the locker room under his own power — where he stayed for the remainder of the game.
Prior to the injury, the 26-year-old was leading the way again for the shorthanded Knicks with 27 points, three rebounds, and eight assists across 31 minutes of action.
As far as Josh Hart, who tweaked his knee against Memphis, he was moving normally after the game as well.
Feb. 6, 5:45 p.m.
The Knicks will be without backup center Jericho Sims in Tuesday night’s matchup with the Memphis Grizzlies due to an illness.
New York is already playing very shorthanded with Julius Randle, Quentin Grimes, and OG Anunoby remaining sidelined due to their respective injuries.
With Sims sitting out Tuesday’s contest, New York could turn to veteran big man Taj Gibson to contribute more minutes off the bench.
Feb. 6, 1:12 p.m.
As the Knicks determine what to do ahead of Thursday’s trade deadline, here are updates on OG Anunoby and Quentin Grimes, via SNY’s Ian Begley.
Anunoby, who will remain out for Tuesday’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies, was “improving” late last week.
Head coach Tom Thibodeau has suggested the Knicks would not rush Anunoby back from his elbow issue — instead choosing to wait until he’s 100 percent healed.
As far as Grimes’ knee injury, there is no structural issue.
Feb. 5, 5:59 p.m.
The Knicks have listed OG Anunoby (right elbow inflammation) and Quentin Grimes (ankle) as out for Tuesday’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies, according to the official NBA injury report.
This will be Anunoby’s fifth straight game missed since he was a late scratch against the Charlotte Hornets on Jan. 29.
Newsday’s Steve Popper says that Grimes could be out through the rest of the homestand, which ends Monday, Feb. 12.
Feb 3, 7:11 p.m.
Head coach Tom Thibodeau discussed the status of two of his injured players before Saturday’s bout against the Los Angeles Lakers, confirming that both OG Anunoby and Quentin Grimes will be out for New York.
Grimes (knee) had already been ruled out earlier on Saturday, but there was still a chance that Anunoby would be able to play as he was listed as questionable with right elbow inflammation.
Alas, the small forward will miss his fourth consecutive game while Grimes is out for a second straight night.
Feb. 3, 11:30 a.m.
The Knicks will be shorthanded again on Saturday night when they take on the Los Angeles Lakers, as shooting guard Quentin Grimes will remain out due to a right knee sprain.
OG Anunoby, who is day-to-day with right elbow inflammation, is listed as questionable ahead of the prime-time nationally televised contest.
Anunoby has missed each of the past three games due to the injury, but head coach Tom Thibodeau has said the star small forward is progressing well.
Feb. 1, 5:45 p.m.
The Knicks will remain shorthanded when they take on the Indiana Pacers on Thursday night, with OG Anunoby and Quentin Grimes both being ruled out.
Anunoby remains day-to-day with right elbow inflammation, which is now forcing him to miss his third straight contest.
Grimes is suffering from a right knee injury he suffered on a Colin Sexton drive to the hoop during the second quarter of Tuesday’s win over the Utah Jazz.
The guard went straight to the locker room after rolling his ankle/knee on the play, but he was able to return and finished with 12 points.
Jan. 31, 7:20 p.m.
OG Anunoby and Quentin Grimes are questionable for Thursday’s game against the Indiana Pacers.
Anunoby (right elbow inflammation) was held out of Tuesday’s 118-103 win over the Utah Jazz.
Grimes (right knee sprain) scored 12 points (4-for-12 shooting) and added six rebounds and two assists in 20 minutes against Utah, but picked up a slight knock in the process.
Jan. 30, 5:51 p.m.
The Knicks have ruled star small forward OG Anunoby out for Tuesday night’s game against the Utah Jazz due to right elbow inflammation.
Anunoby was initially listed as questionable earlier in the day, but now he’s set to miss his second straight contest.
The 26-year-old was a late scratch for the Knicks’ win over the Charlotte Hornets on Monday night after his elbow flared up on him during shootaround.
The forward missed his first game since being acquired by the Knicks on Dec. 30 from the Toronto Raptors, and head coach Tom Thibodeau said he’s being considered day-to-day.
Thibodeau was also asked about Julius Randle but had no update to give on the star power forward’s shoulder injury.
Jan. 29, 9:54 p.m.
OG Anunoby is “day-to-day” after missing the Knicks’ 113-92 win at the Charlotte Hornets with right elbow inflammation. New York has a quick turnaround Tuesday against the Utah Jazz.
“I think it’s going to be day-to-day,” Tom Thibodeau said. “It’s inflammation, so we’ll see where it is tomorrow. But he went through shootaround and he was planning on playing, so it was a late scratch.”
Since the Dec. 30 trade with the Toronto Raptors, Anunoby is averaging 15.6 points and 4.6 rebounds in 35.7 minutes per game through 14 contests.
“It’s one of those things — it flared up,” Thibodeau said of Anunoby’s elbow. “If he can’t play, he can’t play. Next guy get in there, get it down.”
Jan. 29, 6:28 p.m.
Knicks forward OG Anunoby is out against the Charlotte Hornets, the team announced.
Anunoby is dealing with right elbow inflammation and will be out for at least this game, the team said.
Since the Dec. 30 trade, the Knicks with Anunoby have dominated, going 11-2 with the 26-year-old in the lineup.
In 14 games with the Knicks, Anunoby is averaging 15.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and nearly two steals a game.
An update on the status of Anunoby remains to be seen as New York hosts the Jazz Jan. 30.
Jan. 28, 8:49 p.m.
Despite no update on the results of his MRI, Julius Randle has been listed as out for Monday night against the Hornets with a dislocated right shoulder.
Randle injured himself against the Miami Heat on Saturday, although X-rays taken after the game didn’t show much damage — leaving the team cautiously optimistic that he avoided serious injury.
However, the Knicks won’t know the extent of Randle’s injury and how long he’ll be out without the results of the MRI that he also received on Saturday.
Jan. 27, 5:40 p.m.
Knicks star power forward Julius Randle left Saturday’s win over the Miami Heat after suffering a shoulder injury late in the fourth quarter.
Randle landed hard on his right side after a tough drive to the basket, and after remaining down for a few moments, he went right to the locker room alongside trainers.
He was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the runaway win.
Head coach Tom Thibodeau told reporters postgame that Randle was being evaluated at the moment and he didn’t have any update, but he was concerned.
“You’re concerned anytime anyone gets hurt and you hope for the best,” he said. “That’s where we are right now, but I also feel if he is out then the next guy will go in there and get it done.”
Before the injury, Randle was heating up with 19 points on 6-of-14 shooting, nine rebounds, and three assists across 32 minutes of action.
Jan. 27, 2:45 p.m.
Isaiah Hartenstein will return to the Knicks’ starting lineup on Saturday when they take on the Miami Heat, SNY’s Ian Begley confirmed.
Hartenstein has missed the past two games due to a left Achilles ailment.
The big man is averaging 6.6 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.1 blocks, and 1.2 steals per game while logging 25.6 minutes per contest
Jan. 25, 6:15 p.m.
For a second straight game, center Isaiah Hartenstein will not be in the starting lineup and is out in the Knicks’ matchup with the Denver Nuggets at MSG, according to head coach Tom Thibodeau who spoke to the media before the game.
Hartenstein missed his first game of the season on Tuesday against the Nets with an Achilles injury and won’t be able to suit up in Thursday’s action against the reigning NBA champions that tips off at 7:30 p.m.
Since taking over the starting role for the injured Mitchell Robinson at center, Hartenstein has been a force around the rim. In his last seven games where he played at least 28 minutes, the 7-footer has grabbed 11 or more rebounds and has recorded at least one block in five of those games.
Overall, Hartenstein is averaging 6.6 points, 8.5 rebounds, two assists, 1.1 blocks and 1.2 steals per game while logging 25.6 minutes per contest. In his absence, Jericho Sims will likely make his seventh start of the season and second in a row after scoring six points with four rebounds and four blocks against Brooklyn in 27 minutes.
Precious Achiuwa will also likely receive increased playing time.
Jan. 23, 6:12 p.m.
Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau confirmed Isaiah Hartenstein will be out for Tuesday’s game at the Nets with an Achilles injury. Thibodeau said his center will be day-to-day and that Hartenstein has dealt with the ankle soreness for a while.
Jericho Sims is likely the starting center for Tuesday’s game.
Jan. 22, 6:30 p.m.
The Knicks are listing center Isaiah Hartenstein as questionable for Tuesday’s game at the Nets due to left Achilles tendinopathy, according to SNY’s NBA Insider Ian Begley.
“Sore left foot, we’ll see where he is tomorrow,” head coach Tom Thibodeau said earlier on Monday. Hartenstein “just watched film” and did not participate in any on-court portion of practice, the head coach added.
Thibodeau said he loves “the depth we have at that position” with Jericho Sims and Precious Achiuwa being able to slide into the five. Julius Randle and OG Anunoby can also play some minutes there.
Jan. 18, 5:45 p.m.
Josh Hart has been ruled out for Thursday night’s game against the Washington Wizards.
The reserve forward was able to partake in yesterday’s contest against the Houston Rockets, despite being listed as questionable due to a knee injury.
Hart put together a strong performance with a 10-point-14-rebound double-double across 30 minutes, but now he’ll rest on the second night of a back-to-back.
Jan. 17, 7:15 p.m.
Jalen Brunson returns to the starting lineup for Wednesday night’s game against the Houston Rockets after missing two games with a calf ailment.
Josh Hart is also available to play. The reserve forward was dealing with a knee injury that New York head coach Tom Thibodeau classified as “general soreness” in his pregame comments.
Jan. 16, 5:45 p.m.
Jalen Brunson may miss his third straight game.
The Knicks are listing the star point guard (calf) as questionable for Wednesday’s contest against the Houston Rockets, per SNY’s Ian Begley.
New York is also listing Josh Hart as questionable due to a knee injury.
Begley notes that Hart is listed as having tendionapthy in his left knee, the ailment is commonly referred to as “jumper’s knee” as is an inflammation of the patellar tendon.
Jan. 15, 6:24 p.m.
Following the Knicks’ 98-94 loss to the Orlando Magic on Monday, head coach Tom Thibodeau said Jalen Brunson (calf) is day-to-day.
The point guard missed his second straight game with a left calf contusion he suffered on Jan. 12.
Thibodeau noted that Brunson is “getting a little better,” but his status for Wednesday’s game against the Houston Rockets remains unknown. The head coach added that Brunson’s status is tied to his pain tolerance with the calf injury.
Jan. 15, 2:31 p.m.
Jalen Brunson (calf) is out of the starting lineup for a second consecutive game in Monday’s bout with the Orlando Magic at Madison Square Garden.
Miles McBride is making his second straight start in Brunson’s absence.
Jan. 15, 1:20 p.m.
Meeting the media before the Knicks’ matchup with the Orlando Magic, head coach Tom Thibodeau said that Jalen Brunson (left calf contusion) will go through warmups before the game and see how he feels, but that the point guard is ultimately a game-time decision.
The game tips off at 3 p.m.
If Brunson misses his second straight game, Miles McBride will likely get the starting nod once again after he scored a career-high 19 points against the Memphis Grizzlies in his first start of the season.
Jan. 14, 5:40 p.m.
Jalen Brunson (left calf contusion) is being listed as questionable for Monday’s game against the Orlando Magic, according to multiple reports.
Brunson missed his first game of the season on Saturday night against the Memphis Grizzlies, as guard Miles McBride started in his place. McBride scored a career-high 19 points with six rebounds and five assists in NY’s win.
The former Villanova star appears to have suffered the injury against the Dallas Mavericks on Jan. 12, as he was seen walking gingerly after the game.
Jan. 13, 7:40 p.m.
Jalen Brunson (calf) is out of the starting lineup in the Knicks’ bout against the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday night. It’s the first game Brunson has missed this season.
In his place, Miles McBride enters the starting five for his first start this season and fifth of his career. McBride has averaged 3.3 points, 0.8 assists and 0.3 steals in 7.0 minutes per game in 25 appearances this year.
However, this month the 23-year-old has scored 16 points against the Portland Trail Blazers on 6-of-13 shooting (4-of-7 from three) and 15 points on 4-of-8 shooting (4-for-6 from deep) against the Philadelphia 76ers.
Jan. 12, 6:08 p.m.
The Knicks may be without Jalen Brunson on Saturday night when they take on the Memphis Grizzlies. The point guard is dealing with a calf contusion and is considered questionable.
Brunson was seen walking gingerly after New York lost to his former team the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday night where he scored 30 points in 39 minutes.
The 27-year-old hasn’t missed a game this season and is averaging a career-high 25.8 points per game.
Jan. 5, 6:00 p.m.
Point guard Malachi Flynn has officially been cleared to make his Knicks debut in Friday night’s road matchup with the Philadelphia 76ers.
After being traded to New York from the Raptors in the OG Anunoby deal, Flynn missed the first two games with his new team due to a sprained right ankle.
The 25-year-old hadn’t missed anytime with Toronto, but he arrived to New York with the injury.
Now that he’s back healthy, he’ll likely slot into the rotation in a reserve role as the third-string point guard behind Jalen Brunson and Miles McBride.
He’s posted 5.1 points, 2.4 assists, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.1 turnovers per game while shooting 40.9 percent from the field across an average of 15.3 minutes this season.
Jan. 2, 11:30 p.m.
It looks like Knicks fans will have to wait a little longer to get their first look at the third and final piece from their trade with the Toronto Raptors.
Point guard Malachi Flynn has been ruled out for Wednesday night’s game against the Chicago Bulls due to a sprained right ankle.
The 25-year-old hadn’t missed anytime with the Raptors because of the injury, but he’s now set to sit out his first two games with his new team.
When healthy, Flynn is expected to slot into the rotation as the third-string point guard behind Jalen Brunson and Miles McBride.
Jan. 1, 10:45 a.m.
The Knicks’ plan as of earlier Monday was that OG Anunoby would be active for their game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to SNY’s Ian Begley.
While the recently acquired Anunoby and Precious Achiuwa are not on the injury report for the New Year’s Day game, the Knicks are listing Malachi Flynn as out due to a right ankle injury.
Dec. 31, 9:00 p.m.
Quentin Grimes “wanted to play” Saturday against the Indiana Pacers, “knowing he’d get increased minutes given who was available” following the team’s trade with the Toronto Raptors, according to SNY’s Ian Begley.
Although, “he caught a bad cold that’s been going around the group and wanted to be fully ready for new, expanded role.”
Grimes will play Monday against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Begley added.
Over 21 games (18 starts) this season, Grimes is averaging 6.1 points over 20.5 minutes per night.
Dec. 30, 6:35 p.m.
Quentin Grimes will miss Saturday’s game against the Indiana Pacers due to a non-COVID illness, as the Knicks will be down to just nine players following their big trade for OG Anunoby.
Grimes played 14 minutes on Friday night against the Orlando Magic, but scored just three points. He’s averaging 6.1 points in just 20.5 minutes per night this season.
With RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley on their way to Toronto, New York will only have Jalen Brunson, Donte DiVincenzo, Josh Hart, Julius Randle, Isaiah Hartenstein, Miles McBride, Taj Gibson, Evan Fournier, and Ryan Arcidiacono suiting up to play.
It’s unclear at the time if Anunoby, Precious Achiuwa, and Malachi Flynn will be ready to play on New Year’s Day when the Knicks take on the Minnesota Timberwolves. Otherwise, the team’s following game on Wednesday, Jan. 3 against the Chicago Bulls could be their new acquisitions’ debut.
Dec. 20, 5:55 p.m.
Center Jericho Sims is expected to miss some due to the ankle sprain he suffered during Monday’s game against the Lakers.
Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported that he could potentially miss one-to-two weeks due to the injury. The Knicks announced prior to Wednesday’s game that the center will be re-evaluated in 7-10 days.
The big man left Monday’s game in the first half due to the injury. The Knicks quickly shut him down for the rest of the night, and he was seen postgame in a walking boot.
With Mitchell Robinson sidelined due to a left ankle injury, Sims had slotted in as New York’s starting center for each of the past five games.
In his absence in Monday’s contest, Isaiah Hartenstein stepped up with 39 minutes off the bench and he contributed nine points and a career-high 17 rebounds.
It’s reasonable to believe Hartenstein will move into the starting lineup while Sims is out, with newly-signed Taj Gibson becoming the backup.
Dec. 18, 11:29 p.m.
Jericho Sims was ruled out in the second quarter of the Knicks’ game at the Los Angeles Lakers with a sprained right ankle.
Sims started but only logged three minutes because he quickly picked up two fouls.
With Sims in foul trouble, Isaiah Hartenstein‘s workload increased off the bench to the tune of 18 first-half minutes. Taj Gibson, whom the Knicks recently signed, also got playing time.
Dec. 12, 7:55 p.m.
Immanuel Quickley (right knee inflammation) is questionable for the Knicks’ game on Wednesday in Utah against the Jazz.
Quickley missed Monday’s 136-130 win over the Toronto Raptors after being listed as a game-time decision.
The 24-year-old guard last played on Dec. 8 against the Boston Celtics, scoring 17 points in 25 minutes of action. Over 21 games this year, Quickley is averaging 15.0 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in just 24.2 minutes per game.
Dec. 11, 6:58 p.m.
Immanuel Quickley (right knee inflammation) is out for the Knicks’ 7:30 p.m. game against the Toronto Raptors.
Earlier, Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau said that Quickley was a game-time decision.
Jalen Brunson (left ankle sprain), as Thibodeau added before tipoff, is active.
Dec. 11, 6:00 p.m.
Before Monday’s game against the Toronto Raptors, head coach Tom Thibodeau confirmed that Jalen Brunson (left ankle sprain) would play. Brunson was listed as questionable on Sunday and earlier in the day Monday.
Initially considered questionable with right knee inflammation, Immanuel Quickley will be a game-time decision, Thibodeau added.
As for a player who definitely won’t be on the court, Thibodeau told reporters that Mitchell Robinson suffered a stress fracture in his left ankle which will require surgery. New York announced earlier on Monday that Robinson would be out for 8-10 weeks before getting reevaluated. If all goes well, the center could return right before the trade deadline.
Dec. 11, 12:40 p.m.
Mitchell Robinson will undergo surgery on his left ankle this week, the Knicks announced Monday.
Robinson, who injured his ankle in Friday’s loss at Boston, will be re-evaluated in eight to 10 weeks.
“Always gonna be an uphill battle,” the center posted on Snapchat over the weekend.
“Been battling stuff my whole life; some days I feel like I take 10 steps ahead, and others feel like I took 20 steps back; even when I do what I’m supposed to god throws these battles at me that feel like they’re unbeatable no matter what I do,” the post read. “I know I shouldn’t be letting this stuff get to my mental but over time it just takes over.”
Robinson, whose defensive play had his name in the early-season Defensive Player of the Year conversation, was averaging 6.2 points, 10.3 rebounds (5.3 offensive boards), 1.5 steals and 1.3 blocks in 29.2 minutes over the first 21 games of the 2023-24 campaign.
New York will now rely on Isaiah Hartenstein and Jericho Sims at center.
Dec. 10, 5:51 p.m.
Mitchell Robinson (left ankle inflammation) is out for Monday’s 7:30 p.m. game against the Toronto Raptors. Jalen Brunson (left ankle sprain) is questionable.
Dec. 10, 1:02 p.m.
The Knicks got some good news about Jalen Brunson and the ankle injury he sustained in Friday’s defeat in Boston.
Head coach Tom Thibodeau said (via The Athletic’s Fred Katz) Sunday that the point guard is “good” with the ankle and will play Monday at home against the Toronto Raptors. Brunson twisted his ankle with New York down 12 and 20 seconds left in what would be a 133-123 loss.
However, the news on center Mitchell Robinson was a bit less encouraging as the head coach said that he will undergo “additional testing” on his ankle injury against the Celtics. Robinson’s status is uncertain until the results of those tests come back.
When Thibodeau was asked if this could be a long-term injury for Robinson, he said, “I don’t know. He’s being examined by the medical people. So until we get the report, it’s just speculation.”
Dec. 8, 10:40 p.m.
Knicks center Mitchell Robinson was absent to start the second half in Friday’s loss against the Boston Celtics. The MSG broadcast said that Robinson limped to the locker room after the second quarter finished.
Robinson would play a few minutes when he returned in the third quarter but did not play at all in the fourth. Coach Tom Thibodeau gave an update on Robinson.
“Mitch is fine,” he said after the game. “It was precautionary.”
Thibodeau did confirm that Robinson tweaked his ankle and x-rays came back negative at halftime. When the subject of Robinson was followed up on, Thibodeau explained why he didn’t play his center more in the second half, and it was the combination of being cautious with him and how well Isaiah Hartenstein and the group around him were making a comeback in the fourth quarter.
Robinson finished with 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting and eight rebounds in 19 minutes of play.
As for Jalen Brunson, who stepped on a Celtics player’s foot with 20 seconds left and seemed to twist his ankle, Thibodeau says he didn’t have an update on his point guard.
The coach was asked if he regretted having Brunson out there with the Knicks down 10 and the game out of reach, and Thibodeau said, “no.”

After missing the past three games due to migraines, RJ Barrett will return to the court Saturday night when the Knicks take on the Hornets in Charlotte.
The 23-year-old last played on Nov. 12 against the Hornets and scored 24 points in 31 minutes of action.

RJ Barrett, who has missed the last three games due to migraines, is a game-time decision for Saturday night’s game in Charlotte.
Quentin Grimes will miss his second-straight game due to a left hand injury while reserve wing Evan Fournier will be unavailable against the Hornets due to ankle inflammation.
Nov. 17, 6:42 p.m.
After Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau gave a few updates on his players prior to Friday’s game at the Washington Wizards, the team made it official that both Quentin Grimes and RJ Barrett will miss it.
First, Grimes was ruled out for the game earlier in the day. Grimes left Wednesday’s game against the Atlanta Hawks in the fourth quarter with a sprained left wrist. With the short turnaround, it’s not surprising Grimes was ruled out.
Barrett, who missed the last two games with a migraine, was considered a game-time decision but ultimately was ruled out before tip due to the same ailment.
Nov. 16, 5:17 p.m.
After leaving Wednesday’s win against the Atlanta Hawks in the fourth quarter with a left hand injury, the Knicks diagnosed Quentin Grimes with a sprained left wrist, according to Newsday’s Steve Popper. He is questionable for Friday’s game against the Washington Wizards.
In 11 games this season, Grimes is averaging 8.1 points, on 42.7 percent shooting. He’s also averaging 24.7 minutes per game, down from his career-high 29.9 minutes last season.
In addition, the Knicks also consider RJ Barrett, who has missed the last two games with a migraine, as questionable for Friday’s game.
Nov. 15, 10:35 p.m.
Quentin Grimes exited Wednesday’s win over Hawks with bruised left hand, Tom Thibodeau said after the game.
With 10:45 to play in the fourth quarter, Grimes went up to contest a layup by Atlanta’s Bogdan Bogdanovic and appeared to get his left thumb caught against the Hawks’ shooting guard’s arm. Grimes went back to the locker room and did not return.
The Knicks head coach said he did not know if Grimes had already undergone X-rays.
Nov. 15, 6:08 p.m.
RJ Barrett remains out of the starting lineup with migraines and will miss his second consecutive game Wednesday night against the Atlanta Hawks.
Barrett has been traveling with the team and while head coach Tom Thibodeau said the small forward is feeling better, he’s still considered day-to-day.
Nov. 13, 7:19 p.m.
RJ Barrett will not play against the Boston Celtics on Monday night as he is dealing with a migraine.
Evan Fournier will also not play as he is away from the team due to personal reasons. He is expected to rejoin the team on Wednesday against the Atlanta Hawks.
Nov. 6, 5:53 p.m.
RJ Barrett will return to the court for the Knicks on Monday night against the Los Angeles Clippers, playing for the first time since Oct. 31.
Barrett missed New York’s last two games with left knee soreness and in his absence, the Knicks went 0-2 while struggling mightily to make shots, specifically from beyond the arc.
Nov. 5, 1:00 p.m.
Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau said that RJ Barrett was a full participant at practice Sunday after missing the team’s past two games due to left knee soreness.
Thibodeau added that the Knicks “will see how he feels tomorrow,” but if all goes well, Barrett is expected to suit up against the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday night at The Garden.
Over four games this season, Barrett is averaging 21 points on 45.3% shooting (both career-highs) with three rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. New York is 2-2 with Barrett playing, but 0-2 without him this season.
Nov. 3, 6:00 p.m.
RJ Barrett has been ruled out for Friday night’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks due to left knee soreness.
This is the second straight game that the forward will miss with the injury, and head coach Tom Thibodeau says he remains day-to-day.
As he did on Wednesday night against the Cavs, Josh Hart will take Barrett’s place in the starting lineup.
Prior to the injury, Barrett was averaging a team-high 22.0 points to go along with 2.5 assists and 3.0 rebounds over the first four games of the season.
Nov. 1, 7:10 p.m.
The Knicks announced prior to Wednesday’s tip against the Cleveland Cavaliers that RJ Barrett will miss the game with what the team is calling a sore left knee.
Coach Tom Thibodeau said that Barrett was a game-time decision after he experienced some soreness in his knee. Barrett played 25 minutes in Tuesday’s win against the Cavs, going 5-for-13 with 16 points and three rebounds.
Barrett was entering Wednesday’s game with 4984 career points. He’ll have to wait until the Knicks’ next game, Friday against the Milwaukee Bucks, to potentially reach the 5000-point plateau.
Oct. 18, 6:00 p.m.
Immanuel Quickley will miss the Knicks preseason finale Wednesday night against the Washington Wizards, Tom Thibodeau announced.
The guard is “nicked up just a little bit,” the head coach said. This is the second straight game Quickley has missed after sitting out Tuesday night’s defeat at Boston.
The Knicks will open the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at Madison Square Garden against the Celtics.
Oct. 13, 2:28 p.m.
There has been some mystery surrounding Josh Hart after he did not appear in the preseason opener and head coach Tom Thibodeau admitted on Friday that the forward is indeed “nicked up,” but stopped short of categorizing it as an injury.
“[He’s] nicked up a little bit, but not anything lingering or anything like that,” he said. “Just want to make sure we take care of that stuff now so he’s not carrying it into the season.”
As far as playing in Saturday’s preseason game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Thibodeau said, “We’ll see how he responds…just taking it day-by-day. … but I think he’s moving pretty good. We’ll see tomorrow. I think he’ll play a little bit.”
