Australian Open LIVE: Emma Raducanu knocked out after marathon three-set defeat to Yafan Wang
Emma Raducanu is out of the Australian Open after struggling physically in the deciding set of her marathon second-round defeat to Yafan Wang, the World 94. After levelling the match at a set all and having made an impressive fight-back, Raducanu was forced to take a medical timeout early in the third. The 21-year-old had to have her blood pressure taken after appearing to be light-headed and struggling with her breathing.
Raducanu was playing in just her fourth match in eight months and was making her grand slam return at the Australian Open after missing the majority of last season following surgeries on both of her wrists and left ankle. The former US Open champion improved after a difficult opening set, where she struggled to adjust to the challenging conditions and swirling wind, but faded early on in the third set as the match reached the two-hour mark.
Raducanu battled on, showing considerable resilience as she threatened to break back but was unable to take any of her seven opportunities across a series of gruelling deuce games. Wang steadied on serve and closed out a 6-4 4-6 6-4 victory after almost three hours as Raducanu netted on a backhand close to the net.

Australian Open LIVE: Tommy Paul vs Jack Draper
07:26 , Jamie Braidwood
GAME, SET AND MATCH! Tommy Paul 6-2 3-6 6-3 7-5 Jack Draper
Ah, just short of the three-hour mark, Tommy Paul serves out a four-set victory to end Jack Draper’s Australian Open campaign. There was not much in that fourth set, but a few unforced errors in the final two games cost Draper the chance of forcing a deciding set. The American 14th seed, who reached the semi-finals last year, played a more controlled game in the fourth set.
Still, there is still plenty for Draper to be encouraged by as he returns home from his Australia swing, including a second ATP final in Adelaide. Paul said he was out for “revenge” after he was beaten by Draper in Adelaide. The American adds that he wanted to keep Draper out on court for as long as possible after the 22-year-old was taken to five sets on Tuesday.

Emotional Iga Swiatek produces stunning third-set comeback to survive at Australian Open

An emotional Iga Swiatek survived a major scare to defeat Danielle Collins and reach the third round of the Australian Open.
The world number one lost to Collins in the semi-finals in Melbourne two years ago and it appeared history was about to repeat itself when the American took a 4-1 lead in the deciding set under the roof on Rod Laver Arena.
But Swiatek responded with five games in a row to claim a 6-4 3-6 6-4 victory and set up a clash with Czech teenager Linda Noskova.
The Pole sobbed into her towel at the end of the match, and she said with a relieved smile: “I was at the airport already. I wanted to fight until the end. She played perfectly so I knew it would be hard for anybody to maintain that level. I waited for the mistakes to come. I’m really proud of myself because it wasn’t easy.”

Emma Raducanu, Jack Draper, Katie Boulter and Cameron Norrie are all in action in the Australian Open second round on Thursday on a busy day for the British players in Melbourne.
Raducanu made an impressive return to the grand slam stage on Tuesday as she defeated Shelby Rogers in straight sets and now takes on the world 94 Yafan Wang.
The 21-year-old has not reached the third round of a major since winning the US Open, and would face Boulter if the British No 1 makes it past Qinwen Zheng, the 12th seed.
Draper is also back in action after his gruelling five-set win over Marcos Giron, which saw the 22-year-old throw up post-match due to “psychological stress” of the encounter.
Draper now takes on 14th seed Tommy Paul, an opponent he defeated in Adelaide last week, while Norrie had a far more straight-forward assignment against qualifier Giulio Zeppieri.

Good morning and welcome to The Independent’s live coverage of the Australian Open on a big day for the Brits on day five!
Cameron Norrie is the first Brit in action and, after a few rain delays, is attempting to come back from two sets to love down against Italian qualifier and fellow lefty Giulio Zeppieri.
Following Norrie on the 1573 Arena is Katie Boulter and Emma Raducanu – if they both win, they will play each other in the third round.
