In his first season with the Rangers, coach Peter Laviolette is not only leading his team to one of the best records in the NHL but he’s making All-Star Game history along the way.

The NHL announced Sunday that Laviolette will be one of four coaches at this year’s All-Star Game festivities. The head coach of the team with the highest points percentage in each of the four divisions through Saturday, Jan. 13, was chosen.

Laviolette has led the Rangers to the best record in the Metropolitan Division with 54 points (26-13-2).

This year will be Laviolette’s fourth time being named an NHL All-Star Game coach, the most among active head coaches. He previously coached in the All-Star Game as the coach of the Philadelphia Flyers (2011) and Nashville Predators (2015, 2018).

He’s also just the 12th head coach in NHL history to appear in four or more All-Star Games, per the New York Rangers PR.

Laviolette is joined by Jim Montgomery of the Boston Bruins, Rick Bowness of the Winnipeg Jets and Rick Tocchet of the Vancouver Canucks as the other All-Star Game coaches this year.

So far, goalie Igor Shesterkin is the only member of the Rangers heading to Toronto.

The 2024 NHL All-Star Weekend will take place Feb. 1-3 in Toronto.
